Gibbs Colleges to close in Northeast,
including Norwalk

WHAT ABOUT FARMINGTON??????

5:40 PM EST, February 15, 2008
NORWALK, Conn. (AP)

The parent company of Gibbs College plans to close the school's campuses in Norwalk, Boston and elsewhere on the East Coast, the corporation's president said Friday.

Career Education Corp. officials said in a written statement Friday that the colleges will "teach out" all programs by Dec. 31, 2009, giving students time to finish their programs there or transfer elsewhere.

The company, based in Hoffman Estates, Ill., says it tried without success to find buyers for its Gibbs division before deciding to close it.

"We considered these decisions very carefully and took additional time to do so to ensure an outcome that takes into account the vital interests of students, faculty and staff," company president Gary E. McCullough said in a written statement.

The Norwalk site stopped accepting student applications Friday. It has 919 students in 14 associate degree programs and two certificate programs ranging from business administration to criminal justice.

Officials from the Connecticut Department of Higher Education said Friday they are working with Gibbs representatives to ensure a smooth transition for students.

Career Education Corp.'s Gibbs division includes the Norwalk and Boston sites along with others in Cranston, R.I.; New York City; Norristown, Pa.; and in the New Jersey communities of Livingston and Piscataway.

Career Education Corp. also says it will close McIntosh College in Dover, N.H., and Lehigh Valley College in Center Valley, Pa.

It also will seek permission to convert Gibbs College in Vienna, Va., and Katharine Gibbs School in Melville, N.Y., to Sanford-Brown campuses that focus on allied health programs.

The company announced last year that it would close its Brooks College campuses in Long Beach and Sunnyvale, Calif., after unsuccessfully seeking a buyer.

Dear CNN:
It's pronounced:

FOR-mi-da-ble

Usage Note: Traditionally formidable has been pronounced with stress on the first syllable, but recently the pronunciation with stress on the second syllable, which is a common variant in British English, appears to be on the rise in American English. The traditional pronunciation is apparently still preferred by a large majority of educated speakers, however. A recent survey shows that 80 percent of the Usage Panel use the pronunciation (fôr'mĭ-də-bəl), while 14 percent use (fôr-mĭd'ə-bəl). A few Panelists approved both pronunciations.

Beyonce's "Queen" a Royal Pain for Aretha

02/13/2008 6:00 AM, E! Online

There are plenty of divas. But there can only be one queen.

Aretha Franklin has lashed out at well-intentioned comments made by Beyoncé Knowles during the latter's introduction of Tina Turner on the Grammy stage Sunday night. Franklin, 65, says she felt disrepected after Knowles referred to Turner as the Queen, while relegating Franklin to a brief name check in a long list of inspirational singers past, an act apparently tantamount to musical heresy.

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy," a clearly offended Franklin said in an unprompted statement issued by her publicist.

Jet Boy – Jet Girl
He gives me...

Can you tell what's on my mind?
She's with him it's driving me wild

I'd like to hit him on the head until he's dead
The sight of blood is such a high

Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

We made it on a Ballroom Blitz
I took his arms and kissed his lips
He looked at me with such a smile my face turned red
We booked a room into the Ritz
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

Jet boy jet girl
I'm gonna take you 'round the world
Jet boy I'm gonna make you penetrate
I'm gonna make you be a girl
Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

I know I'm only just fifteen
I like to kick I like to scream
And even if I had a kink or two in bed with him
You know it's just a dream
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

Jet boy jet girl
I'm gonna take you 'round the world
Jet boy I'm gonna make you penetrate
I'm gonna make you be a girl
Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

The other day what a suprise
I saw him with some other guys
God he was dressed up with a girl around his neck
I could have cried with both my eyes
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

And if and when I make it though
Or if my brain is stuck on glue
And when the world tries to foget all that I said
You know I'll still remember you
Ooooohhhh
You gave me head

Jet boy jet girl
I'm gonna take you 'round the world
Jet boy I'm gonna make you penetrate
I'm gonna make you be a girl
Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

Dueling Birthdays!
Lincoln v Darwin
1809

So I saw Dr A today...

and we were discussing, of all things,
my "sleep" hygiene (sp?) which was,
as agreed upon, terrible.

Did I forget my sleep deodorant?
Something I didn't know about?

He related how he loved sports,
but broadcast sports put him to sleep.

Could I think of something to put me weary, he queried?

No, I said.
Boldly stating how whatever would be on television would either fascinate me aurally or visually, and it was no longer white noise.

Was I sure?

Sure, absolutely.

Fast-forward:

Hey Doc?

Monday, February 11, 2008

Yeah, they're playin' this when I get hitched!

Today, you came by, to tell me you are leaving me, and to say, that
the love, and all that we knew had just drifted away. And I look, in
your eyes, and I couldn't bare the pain I felt inside, of my heart. To
think I'm gonna be lonley again, and if e-ever, then I know at a glance
that I don't stand a chance.

Hold on, to my love, I'm nothing, and I can't get along without you.
Your the light of my life. There no living without (your love).

It's so hard, to believe, that your going away could make me feel so
down. Cause I know, that from this moment on I won't have you
around. And if e-ever you go, then I know at a glance that I won't
stand a chance.

So hold on, to my love, I'm nothing, and I can't get along without
you. Your the light of my life. There no living without (your love).

Ooooh, oh baby, nobody's taking you place. But for you, but for me,
our love would live on for the whole world to see.

So hold on, to my love, I'm nothing, and I can't get along without
you. Your the light of my life. There no living without your love. No,
no, no, no, Hey. Whooo

Honey hold on (hold on), to my love (my love), I'm nothing (hold on)
and I can't get along without you (hold on). Your the light, your the
light, of my life (my life). Theres no living without (your love. Hold on,
to my love). Hold on, cause I'm nothin girl, and I can't get along
without you, you, your the light of my life (my life). And I just can't live
without you

Jimmy Ruffin - Hold On To My Love -- [STEREO]

If you've never heard this before, consider yourself lucky to hear it at all. And for those of us who danced at some crazy early-morning hour, our fingers hitched into the empty belt-loops of some anonymous dance partner's jeans, well, you know.

And nothing will ever take that away.

Hold on to my love.
