Bronski Beat|The Age of Consent [1984]

No More War

No more war please
No more destruction of innocent life
No more living in fear
No more on our bended knees
To live is our right
No more war
No more war please
It's got to stop oh we've got to make it stop
No more money for bombs
When the poor people hungry on the street
No more sending young men to fight
As they die for false glory and false pride (do or die)
No more war please
Who wants to die
No more war please
Who wants to die
No more war no more war no more
Who wants to die who wants to die

I mean, really! Why God invented Photoshop!
As if!

Hmmm. Maybe?
Susan Morabito!

Joe Rosenthal (American, 1911-), Soldiers Hoist the Stars and Stripes at Iwo Jima, February 23, 1945, photograph. This iconic photograph actually shows the second flag-raising to celebrate the recapture of the island from the Japanese. Although Rosenthal did not stage this scene at all, as was rumored, he has had to answer the rumor ever since 1945. Mitchell Landsberg's story for AP about the photo includes, "The battle for Iwo Jima was the costliest battle in Marine Corps history. Its toll of 6,821 Americans dead, 5,931 of them Marines, accounted for nearly one-third of all Marine Corps losses in all of World War II. Rosenthal's picture has been called the greatest photograph of all time. It may well be the most widely reproduced. It served as the symbol for the Seventh War Loan Drive, for which it was plastered on 3.5 million posters. It was used on a postage stamp and on the cover of countless magazines and newspapers. It served as the model for the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va., a symbol forever of the valor and sacrifices of the U.S. Marines."

You don't have to travel far. Connecticut is home to a replica
on the New Britain-Newington line.

More people bitch about the rising price of gas.

Something's wrong.
Very, very wrong.

Taking the initiative
At this time you feel very self-assured and confident, and you will have the necessary material and physical resources to carry out whatever objectives you have in mind. If necessary, you work very hard to gather people who will work with you and to assure whatever backing you need. You undertake every task with great zeal and energy. And you don't stand about waiting for someone to give you directions. You take the initiative yourself and finish the task swiftly. Also you will contribute everything you have to the effort.

You are sufficiently confident of success that you are willing to take risks, and such risks are reasonably likely to turn out well. This process takes place in such a way that you learn more about yourself, and at the same time you are able to let others know clearly where you stand.

Back in the day,
people were burned at the stake.
What one calls a gift, I call a curse.
I still can't handle the 296.xx, whatever it is.
Numbers I don't care to play, or be defined by.
Gallipoli.

If you watch only one movie about war,
this would be the one.
Before special effects, before big budgets,
before the hype, even before the big-name stars...
This is a story of humanity and futility.

Gallipoli (d. Peter Weir|1981) may be 25 years old,
but its impact in inescapable.

"From a place you've never heard of,
comes a story you'll never forget."

Amazon.com essential video
An outstanding drama, Gallipoli resonates with sadness long after you have seen it. Set during World War I, this brutally honest antiwar movie was cowritten by director Peter Weir. Mark Lee and a sinfully handsome Mel Gibson are young, idealistic best friends who put aside their hopes and dreams when they join the war effort. This character study follows them as they enlist and are sent to Gallipoli to fight the Turks. The first half of the film is devoted to their lives and their strong friendship. The second half details the doomed war efforts of the Aussies, who are no match for the powerful and aggressive Turkish army. Because the script pulls us into their lives and forces us to care for these young men, we are devastated by their fate. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Memorial Day.
The "unofficial start of summer."
That one day when Mickey + Larry always take the top off the pool.
Its meaning is something else, entirely.
Not just hot dogs, barbecues, and "pass the ketchup."

Quite literally,
born on the Fourth of July.
And they called it "a necessary delay."

I rather like this photograph,
which took me some time to locate.
Dignified. Contextual.
And very, very brave.
And not some "nameless soldier."

If you don't know what a "mashup" is,
you are about to find out.

Depeche Mode: Violated.
Fucking-A brilliant.

It's really funny when my colleagues say "yo! where's the orange?"
when I'm wearing, perhaps, khakis, a green shirt, appropriate tie.
And I tell them I'm wearing orange, they can't see it.
Then, on the rare occasions, the band gets pulled.

VH1 Honorees, May 31.
I don't like the company they are keeping,
but Queen is absolutely the front-runner.
Those boys need to open the live video-vaults.
NOW!

John The Revelator.
Milan. 2005.
This is scary.

I asked a week ago to have an appointment with one of my higher-ups,
and it was scheduled for tomorrow.
And I've been having very "damned if you do|damned if you don't"
feelings about the whole ordeal.
And I even thought about cancelling, but I can't.
Here's my h-scope for tomorrow,
which I (foolishly?) read today.
This really tells me one thing:
whether or not I like it,
and whether or not I am aware,
I'm seriously in touch with the cosmic vibrations.

Making things clear
Valid during several weeks: During this time you may be inclined to keep your opinions to yourself and not communicate them to others, even when you should. At the same time you may be more in touch with the hidden sides of your own personality, your unconscious drives and compulsions than at most other times. The first of these two effects may be undesirable or inappropriate, but the ability to get at hidden areas of your character can be quite useful. The problem here is that you may feel that others will hold anything you say against you. And this may be true, especially if your words are motivated by petty ego concerns. But it is even more likely that what you don't say will be held against you, so it is very important at this time to say everything that has to be said.

The interpretation above is for your transit selected for today:

Not that I have plans this weekend,
but I'd easily wear this,
and well.
And it'd look better because of my scars.

WowWowWow.
Fuck, yeah.
Who'd think it'd be a Pluto|Part of Fortune transit with a favorable trine to Jupiter in the 6th, well-aspected natally by the conjuntion of Mercury|Venus on the cusp of the 10th? PS> Part of Fortune|2ºVirgo.

Yeah. I'm fuckin' crazy.
I'm fuckin' breathing too.

Restore and rejuvenate
Tonight you should have a very strong sense of well-being. Your inner self is functioning harmoniously, and you do not feel emotional turmoil or strife. At the same time you are most contented with the familiar elements of your life. You enjoy being at home with relatives and friends, and you like being surrounded by the objects you are used to. You are not in the mood for adventures, challenges and major changes, nor is it necessary to be so. There will be other times for adventure. Now you should restore and rejuvenate yourself in peace and quiet. Physical comfort is especially important to you at this time, but it doesn't have to be lavish. Your need is for a comfortable environment that seems supportive. You want to be surrounded by whatever you feel protects you.

Barrel of a Gun|Depeche Mode

Do you mean this horny creep
set upon weary feet
Who looks in need of sleep
that doesn't come
This twisted, tortured mess
This bed of sinfulness
who's longing for some rest
and feeling numb

What do you expect of me
What is it you want
Whatever you've planned for me
I'm not the one

A vicious appetite
visits me each night
and won't be satisfied
Won't be denied
An unbearable pain
A beating in my brain
that leaves the mark of cain
right here inside

What am I supposed to do
when everything that I've done
is leading me to conclude
I'm not the one

Whatever I've done
I've been staring down the barrel of a gun

Is there something you need from me
Are you having your fun
I never agreed to be
your holy one

Whatever I've done
I've been staring down the barrel of a gun
